How to Use Facebook Groups to Grow Your Business

Since Facebook changed its algorithm back in January 2018, the newsfeed has prioritized “posts that spark conversations and meaningful interactions”— including posts from Facebook Groups for business. Mark Zuckerberg announced that Facebook wanted “people to stay together” and that the newsfeed would start showing “more from friends, family, and groups” and less from “businesses, brands, and media.”

Today, though, with the power of Facebook groups for business, brands have an opportunity to build fan communities in a way that just wasn’t possible back then.

You will build lasting relationships with your customers. It's a hot fact: customers are loyal to the company that treats them well. Inviting fans to join the community and interacting with them directly on a regular basis shows that you care and builds valuable loyalty and trust.

If you want to take your relationship with your customers to the next level, Facebook Groups are a great way to take it seriously.

The difference between Facebook page and Facebook group

Facebook pages serve the same purpose as your own personal profile: they’re a platform for broadcasting a point of view and creating an authentic, public presence with pictures and posts.

Facebook groups are online social media communities with shared interests.

In other words, they're a place where you can make friends and network with LIKE-MINDED people. It's a lot like "school clubs" from back in the day. People can bounce ideas off of one another to share helpful knowledge with fellow community members.

Post regular welcome messages

Ideally, newcomers are going to be flooding into your group on the reg. To make sure key information doesn’t get lost in the fray, check-in with a welcome post every so often. This is a chance to reiterate expectations, point new users to the rules or resources and reassure the rest of the gang that you’re actively involved.

Join in other people's groups

Facebook groups owned by others can be a great marketing tool for any entrepreneur, solo entrepreneur or a business owner. There are millions of Facebook groups, so it's likely that there is already a group around your topic. You can join these existing communities and start connecting with potential customers and partners.

We recommend joining the first few groups that are most directly related to your product or service. It takes time to become an active member of a group, so you don't want to overwhelm yourself.

Once you've found your Facebook group, take some time to get to know the location of the land and the tone of the group before developing the type of content you want to write. It's important to respect the mission of each group you join.

Let your Facebook group know you are listening (but don't say too much)

Pay close attention to your notifications and replies, especially to discussion-related posts that you yourself have created.

Your members are likely to be happy to continue the conversation, but replies show that you are actively listening to what they have to say. This is especially important if they have tagged you for a reply.
